Wellness and Reasonable Adjustments in Placement Plan (WRAPP)

We are excited to announce the roll-out of our new process to support learners who have additional needs or reasonable adjustments in the practice environment – the Wellness and Reasonable Adjustments Placement Plan, or WRAPP.

What is WRAPP?

Designed to support learners with any kind of additional learning need (physical, mental, neurodivergence, cognitive, neurological, sensory, mobility or any combination of these), this new package of support aims to keep the learner at the centre of discussion, promotes self-advocacy and allows for full and transparent communication between ARU, the learner and their practice area.

Learners will be asked to complete a self-assessment, with support from ARU, on receipt of either an Occupational Health report, or Summary of Reasonable Adjustments which indicates a need for reasonable adjustments. In the self-assessment learners can outline their requests for adjustments in a practice setting, as well as ask for use of specialist technology or equipment which may support their learning in practice. This will then be reviewed in a tripartite discussion between the learner, ARU and the practice setting, and any adjustments agreed, or non-applicability discussed with the learner. The plan will be reviewed regularly.

We have designed the process to relate to ‘challenges’ such as fatigue, difficulty concentrating, physical challenges or sensory processing (to name a few examples) rather than a specific ‘diagnosis’, acknowledging the complexity and intersectionality that is common across learners with additional learning needs.

We want to support our practice colleagues to enable our learners to thrive and achieve their best potential, ensuring they feel seen and heard, and not like a ‘problem to fix’. As part of the plan we are asking learners to complete a ‘Wellness’ plan if they would like to, which will also help us to support them when they are having difficulties.
