Quality assurance of practice placement and Practice Assessment Panels

Quality assurance is a vital part of ensuring high-quality practice learning experiences for learners, practice educators, and placement providers. We encourage all stakeholders to complete the Quality Assurance of Practice Learning (QAPL) process, as your feedback helps us reflect on and continually improve the quality of placements. QAPL links can be found in the Practice Placement Guide.

Our Practice Assessment Panel (PAP) brings together university staff and practice partners to reflect on QAPL feedback and review the quality of portfolio submissions. These discussions help us celebrate what is working well, identify opportunities for development, and continually enhance the practice learning experience for all involved. These will usually be held at the end of the academic year. The Practice Support Officers will circulate dates for this and are contactable on [email protected].

The Electronic Practice Assessment Document (ePAD)

We are excited to be using the ePAD for social work placements. The ePAD provides a comprehensive record of professional development and performance throughout practice placements. It supports students in building a portfolio of evidence across their 200 practice learning days.

The ePAD is accessed through a digital platform called MyProgress and can be used by learners, Practice Educators, On-Site Supervisors and Placement Tutors, enabling effective collaboration and oversight throughout the placement journey.

Features

• Centralised record – stores all placement portfolio requirements, feed-forward from previous practice learning modules, and the Wellness and Reasonable Adjustments in Practice Placement Plan (where applicable).
• Collaborative assessment – allows learners, Practice Educators, On-Site Supervisors and Placement Tutors to securely view, comment on, provide feedback against, and sign off portfolio evidence.
• Real-time tracking – provides dashboards displaying completed practice learning hours, placement progress, and upcoming assessment deadlines and reminders.
• Timesheet verification – learners submit their placement hours directly through the ePAD, with authorised verifiers confirming attendance to ensure accuracy and maintain robust record-keeping.

All social work learners have access to comprehensive guidance and support on using the ePAD through their Standards and Skills for Social Work Practice module Canvas sites.
