At Anglia Learning & Teaching we aim to support, recognise, and inspire all those engaged in learning, teaching, and assessment at Anglia Ruskin University.
We provide colleagues with continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities that support them in their teaching and which maximise their ability to support effective student learning. Our staff development opportunities include short courses, workshops, webinars, regular events and our annual conference. These are aimed at building skill sets, providing practical tools, and pedagogical approaches that build strong student engagement and active student participation in the learning process.
We also provide dedicated VLE sites containing a rich and diverse array of policy information, guidance, videos and practical tools. This includes a site dedicated to our APRS scheme which facilitates professional recognition of our teaching and learning support staff against the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF).
We deliver online resources to develop your use of the Virtual Learning Environment and Open Educational Resources in 15 minutes teaches you to find and use free online material to enhance your teaching. We develop your use of smart technologies for teaching with help from our IT team and extensive resource library.
Our events calendar has something for everyone and encourages our teaching staff to come together. Engage, our annual Learning and Teaching conference celebrates learning, teaching and assessment and include keynotes, workshops and paper presentations. We also organise one-off events such as DigiFest, which celebrates good practice in technology-enhanced learning.
We also send out our Monthly Update to bring our teaching staff news of what’s happening in learning, teaching and assessment.
We work with a wide range of university stakeholders to share good practice including Directors of Learning, Teaching and Assessment, Learning Technologists, Student Services, and the Academic Office. We're leading major institutional projects such as Making our Mark, Anglia Ruskin’s three-year project to enhance assessment and feedback. We're continually working with both staff and students to improve assessment literacy and our Digitally-enhanced learning and teaching menu shares good practice in the use of learning technologies for learning and teaching.
We are committed to making material accessible to all and thus Media, Streaming and Recording is evolving all the time. Our Digital Literacy Framework underpins integration of digital literacy into the curriculum and future staff development. And our Student Engagement Framework focuses on the development of an institutional framework for enabling students to be effective and fully engaged partners in as many of our academic processes as possible, in the wider context for enhanced student engagement. The Good Teaching Exchange actively seeks out examples of good teaching; videos and case studies are available on our website for shared learning.
We lead institutional research projects in learning and teaching, fund projects by Anglia Ruskin staff, and support staff in externally-funded projects. We also promote the preparation of pedagogic research for peer-reviewed publication.
We facilitate a number of Awards aimed at recognising, rewarding, supporting and developing excellent practice. Six Award schemes are available to ensure that there are opportunities for all individuals and teams at ARU.
The Anglia Professional Recognition Scheme for Teaching and Supporting Learning provides two routes to AAdvanceHE Fellowships in one of four categories which reflect an individual’s role and experience in teaching and supporting learning.
Through the annual National Teaching Fellowship Scheme, AdvanceHE recognises up to 55 exceptional practitioners within the higher education sector. Successful individuals are also eligible to apply for funding for learning and teaching-related research projects. We support and develop individuals to be our University’s nominees to the scheme.
The Collaborative Awards for Teaching Excellence, run by AdvanceHE, recognises the key role that teamwork plays in enhancing teaching and learning through collaborative approaches in higher education.
Our annual Vice Chancellor’s Awards recognise exceptional contributions to our community from individuals and teams. Each year up to 8 awards of £2,000 each are made to successful applications.
ARU Sabbaticals support enhancement projects in any area of learning, teaching, student experience and research. They are open to all individuals and teams involved in teaching and in supporting the student learning experience and are aligned with our Education Strategy
