In 2019, our student-led Sustainability Society worked with a local secondary school to turn a bare plot of land into a small onsite orchard.
With a focus on community, sustainability and education, the project brought together 15 pupils from North Cambridge Academy with students from the Sustainability Society over a three-month period.
To get the project off the ground, students from ARU applied for and were successfully awarded funding from sustainability charity, Change Agents. The funding was used to purchase the fruit trees and related equipment.
Pupils at the school were involved in every step of the project, from choosing the trees, to writing poems that were planted alongside the trees as part of the project’s legacy.
