David Crowe

David Crowe

David Crowe has been a teacher in secondary education for thirty seven years, twenty four of them in senior leadership. David has served as a head teacher for eighteen years, first at The Cornelius Vermuyden School on Canvey Island and then, for the last twelve years until his retirement at the end of August 2014, at The Boswells School in Springfield, Chelmsford. Thirty one years of his career has been spent in Chelmsford where he and his family live.

As an active member of the Association of Secondary Headteachers in Essex (ASHE) David served as a member of ASHE Council and then ASHE Executive, including holding the positions of Treasurer, Vice-Chair and Chair. As a Council and Executive member David was significantly involved in various County initiatives, working with county council officers and members as well as commercial organisations. Under his leadership The Boswells School was recognised nationally and internationally and played a key role in offering operational and strategic support to other Essex secondary schools. He was a member of the NFER National Headteachers' Panel for a number of years, playing a role in evaluating new products and research. He was also a core member of the International Education collaboration for further European learning and citizenship.

David is no stranger to studying at Anglia Ruskin University and his wife is also an alumna of the university. In preparation for his first headship David studied on the MSC Educational Management course at Anglia Polytechnic University, based in Danbury Park, achieving his Masters degree in 1996 and then working as a part-time tutor on the Educational Management Diploma and Masters degree programmes in addition to his day job. As an alumnus of the university David feels a great affinity with its work of educating young people and brings a passion for lifelong learning and forging opportunities for young people to his new role as governor.

For relaxation David enjoys golf, music, reading and cycling but above all spending time with his family. His love of football is lifelong: he has been a supporter of Southend United since his very early years and is a season ticket holder.
