Introduction

Develop your animal husbandry skills, and an in-depth knowledge of animal health, welfare and behaviour with our Animal Management (Bioveterinary Science) degree at ARU in Writtle.

If you have a passion for working with animals, and want to support their health and welfare, our industry-focused course is designed to give you the knowledge and skills to pursue a successful career.

As well as hands-on learning with animals, you’ll study a range of modules that cover the essentials of effective animal management.

You’ll be taught by subject-specialist staff, and benefit from campus facilities including dedicated canine and equine centres, a small animal unit and a working farm. Throughout your course, there’s the chance to join ‘behind the scenes’ trips and other experiences.

We offer a number of animal management degrees at ARU in Writtle, with a common first year and the chance to specialise in years 2-3. With our Animal Management (Bioveterinary Science) course, your focus will be on animal health and welfare, nutrition, breeding, microbiology and parasitology, and immunology.

Hands-on learning

Study Animal Management at ARU in Writtle and:

Careers

Our Animal Management (Bioveterinary Science) degree gives you a comprehensive understanding of animal health and welfare. It will prepare you to work in the animal industry and, as a graduate, you could consider a number of careers including:

  • welfare enforcement
  • animal health inspection
  • wildlife conservation and management
  • animal nutrition and pet food manufacturing
  • animal science education
  • animal training
  • disease surveillance
  • quarantine officer
  • working for wildlife agencies such as RPSB, Natural England or Scottish Natural Heritage.

Graduation doesn't have to be the end of your time with us. You might decide to stay at ARU and study a Masters degree, such as our MSc Animal Welfare and Conservation or MSc Conservation Education and Engagement.
