Our course is pending approval by Social Work England. When you graduate from an approved course, you'll be eligible to apply to register as a professional social worker.
Our course maps to Social Work England’s Professional Standards and BASW’s Professional Capabilities Framework. By successfully completing the course, you'll have the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to apply to register as a qualified social worker with Social Work England. The regional representative for Social Work England attends annually to offer guidance on making the application for registration.
The majority of our students will pursue employment as a social worker in a statutory setting and embark on the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE). These are professional vocational courses supported by employers to promote your transition into the sector. You might also consider wider social work roles in the private, voluntary and independent sectors.
Although focused on social work, our postgraduate degree will also equip you with transferable skills (eg communication, assessment and problem-solving, analytical thinking) that could be used in a range of graduate roles.
We work with ARU's Employability Team to coordinate employability fairs and talks by local employers. Local authority representatives attend annually to talk about their ASYE schemes and graduate roles and offer support by holding mock interviews. There are opportunities to meet previous students who are now employed locally, and an Employability Officer who can offer one-to-one tailored support to set out career development plans, and help you develop interview and presentation techniques.
Do you have a question that we haven't answered so far? Talk to our application experts. You can also ask our Student Ambassadors about life at ARU.
We're here Monday-Thursday 9am-5pm (please note we close at 3.30pm on the first and third Thursday of the month for staff training), and Friday 9am-4.30pm.
