Having completed a Master of Business Administration MBA at ARU, Gachelle Gilkes-Edwards has since put her business and leadership skills to good use as a sustainability leader in Trinidad and Tobago.
Gachelle is passionate about sustainability and spearheaded the country's iCARE recycling initiative, the first national recycling project. It promoted public awareness and participation in the recovery and sorting of drinks containers for recycling – and diversion from landfill and waterways.
Having significantly impacted waste management at an individual level, as well as nationally, iCARE has now established collection sites at all education institutions, as well as in public malls and community spaces.
At our Vice Chancellor’s Outstanding Alumni Awards, Gachelle was the 2024 Alumni Sustainability Champion Award winner.
