ChampionHER

ChampionHER is a new and exciting initiative brought to you by Team ARU. The aim is to proactively increase the number of females taking part in physical activity, exercise and sport during their time here.

We want to inspire, engage and create a sense of belonging and community for all females to feel confident enough to take part in physical activity. This project will be delivered across all four of our campuses: Cambridge, Chelmsford, Peterborough and Writtle.

ChampionHER volunteers

Team ARU are recruiting a team of passionate and positive student volunteers – called Champions – from all four campuses to support the delivery of this exciting project.

The role of a Champion is to support the delivery of our ChampionHER project, encouraging more women and non-binary students to take part in sport and develop their understanding on topics surrounding wellness and wellbeing.

You will become part of a team of Champions and gain valuable work experience in a sporting environment. Our Champions do not need to be part of a sports club, nor do they need to be particularly talented at sport. We just want students who love sport and want to help others get involved.

If you would like to express your interest in this role, please complete this online form.

Let's Get Out There programme

Our vibrant and accessible Let’s Get Out There programme is open for ARU women to enjoy activities outside, which will be student-led by our Champions. We want women to enjoy the many physical and mental health benefits that can be gained from being outdoors in nature.

We will offer activities such as walking, riverside walks and exploring local trails, and cycling at local National Trust sites close to our campuses. We'll also introduce the Couch to 5k programme, which will lead to taking part in local ParkRuns.

Using the reservoir at our Writtle campus, we will offer wild water dips. At other campuses we will partner with local lidos to offer outdoor swimming sessions.

ChampionHER festivals

We will host Women in Sport festivals throughout the year, which will include physical activity sessions, events and guest speakers, aiming to break down the barriers and help increase confidence about taking part in physical activity. These festivals will inspire the female ARU community to rise up on their feet and get active.
