Background

Rachel graduated from ABDO College in 2007 and has worked in independent optical practice for over 18 years. Her diverse experience covers dispensing, managerial and purchasing roles. Currently, Rachel offers optical consultancy and is a GOC approved CPD provider.

In January 2021, Rachel joined Anglia Ruskin University initially delivering practical demonstrations on the latest techniques for the accurate dispensing of spectacles. Her passion for ophthalmic dispensing is infectious and as a result she is now an established member of the team delivering lectures on all aspects of dispensing, theoretical and practical.

Rachel has achieved fellowship of the higher education authority and continues to promote good practice through her roles as Deputy Course Leader for BSc Dispensing Optician and Learning and Teaching Lead for the discipline.

Rachel has written and will deliver our much anticipated module enabling students to align their personal values with the GOCs standards of practice. This will ensure students grow into confident professionals capable of independently applying their knowledge and previous experience to new situations.

Outside of her academic achievements, Rachel is known for her warm and compassionate nature. She approaches students and patients alike with empathy, taking the time to understand their needs and providing personalised solutions. Her ability to establish rapport and build lasting relationships with her patients has made her a highly sought-after optician in East Anglia.
