Background

In her research, Petra is concerned with the causes and consequences of social and economic inequalities which stem from unequal educational opportunities and labour market experiences across socio-economic groups. She applies and combines various approaches from different traditions of economic thought, and from different social disciplines. Her perspective is thus multidisciplinary, institutional and comparative.

Petra Sauer is a visiting fellow at the Luxembourg Institute for Socio-economic Research (LISER) and has been a research assistant at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, where she obtained her Ph.D from. For her dissertation on “Macro-economic Consequences of Education (In)equality”, she received the Stephan-Koren prize. Her research on educational (in)equality has been published in prestigious journals in the field. Beyond that, she is keen to disseminate her findings to a broader public audience. In Austria, this activity has recently been awarded with the Kurt-Rothschild prize.
