Niall is a lecturer in optometry teaching on the Optometry and Ophthalmic Dispensing programs. His research interests include sports vision, myopia, accommodation and binocular vision.

Background

Originally from County Mayo, Ireland, Niall joined ARU as a Lecturer in Optometry in August 2019. He is currently concluding his PhD thesis entitled "Occupational factors affecting the accommodative response in the human vision system" under the supervision of Prof Ed Mallen and Dr Matt Cufflin at the University of Bradford. Previously Niall taught on various modules for 6 years on the Optometry programme at the University of Bradford. Niall is a practicing registered optometrist and previously worked in a busy practice in Sheffield prior to start a career in academia. In his spare time, he is a volunteer and team leader with the NGO Vision Aid Overseas. He is a keen runner and an average but enthusiastic player of Gaelic Football.
