Abdullah's research interests are in interlanguage pragmatics and cultural communication issues such as misunderstanding and breakdown in communication. Speech act theory is a key theory in pragmatics and his current work lies within it.
Abdullah holds an MA degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), and learning and teaching a second language and curriculum design is always part of his work and research, though the focus of his PhD research lies under the "big" umbrella of interlanguage pragmatics.
