Studying Law at ARU has been an incredible journey that has broadened my knowledge and exposed me to various opportunities. From engaging lectures to hands-on career experiences, I’ve immersed myself in a range of areas, shaping my understanding of the legal field.
One of the aspects I’ve found most appealing about studying Law at ARU is the variety of modules available. Whether you’re passionate about medical law, corporate law, or even intellectual property, there’s something to suit every interest. This diversity has allowed me to explore different facets of the legal system and helped me discover which areas I’m most drawn to.
The course structure is well-organised, providing a great balance between theory and practical application. I feel like I’m developing a strong foundation in multiple legal areas, which is essential for a well-rounded understanding of the law.
Support has been a constant and reassuring presence throughout my studies. My Personal Development Tutor (PDT) has been invaluable. They’ve been a source of encouragement, offering guidance whenever I need it, whether navigating a complex legal topic or discussing career goals.
The broader School of Economics, Finance and Law is equally supportive, with staff always ready to lend a hand. No question feels too small, and knowing I have a network of approachable lecturers and advisers has made my academic journey smoother.
ARU's teaching methods have proven to be highly effective for me, particularly the student-led workshops. These workshops push you to actively engage with the material, and they’ve been instrumental in helping me solidify my knowledge.
Preparing for these sessions requires discipline and dedication, but the effort pays off when you can confidently contribute and discuss the subject matter with your peers. The workshops are structured in a way that encourages collaboration and critical thinking, and I find them to be one of the most rewarding aspects of the course.
The career support for Law students at ARU is nothing short of phenomenal. Through the Law Clinic, I’ve had the opportunity to sharpen my employability skills by working on real cases under the guidance of experienced legal professionals. This experience not only boosted my confidence but also helped me network within the legal field.
In fact, it was through these connections that I secured a four-month internship, which was a game-changer for me. The internship gave me valuable insight into what it’s like to work in a legal environment, bridging the gap between theory and practice.
Additionally, ARU organizes events like the Law Symposium, where we had the privilege of hearing from professionals such as barristers, a judge, and even a Court of Appeal judge. They offered us a glimpse into their professions and shared advice on what it takes to succeed in the legal field. These sessions provided me with real-world perspectives, helping me to refine my career goals.
Managing my time between studying, working, and socialising is crucial to maintaining balance in my life. I’ve developed a system that works for me, ensuring I stay on top of my workload while also enjoying the social aspects of university life.
I make a point to complete my readings and assignments a few days in advance, which allows me more freedom to engage in other activities. Running a society, going out with friends, and even finding time to rest are important to me, and being organised is key to fitting everything into my schedule.
It’s not always easy, but planning helps me feel more prepared for classes and allows me to enjoy university life without feeling overwhelmed. I’ve learned that having a strong work ethic doesn't mean sacrificing time for yourself or your friends, it just means managing it well.
My time at ARU has been an enriching experience, full of academic challenges, career-building opportunities, and personal growth. The range of Law modules has allowed me to discover what truly interests me, while the support from the school and the practical experiences through the Law Clinic have shaped my understanding of the legal profession.
Balancing study with social life has been an ongoing learning curve, but one I’ve managed with careful planning. I’m excited to continue developing my skills and exploring the possibilities that a legal career offers, and I know that ARU has provided me with the tools to succeed.
