Science is an ever-evolving subject. It signifies progress and resilience in discoveries among those contributing to the change.

What change and adapt means to me:

In my Biomedical Science degree, we witness new concepts daily. For example, during COVID-19, Scientists were pushed to collaborate worldwide and adapt, leading to the rapid development of new vaccines. Adaptation is crucial, as advancements ensure we stay ahead of challenges and revolutionise science, leading to better healthcare and overall saving lives.

Why I chose to study this field:

My passion for Biology and understanding the human body led me to biomedical science. I was fascinated by how biological processes can have significant impacts on health. Studying this field allows me to contribute to research that improves knowledge and saves lives, and the prospect of being part of life-changing discoveries motivates me every day.

The coolest thing I've done on my degree is kidney dissection. Seeing its intricate structures up close (renal cortex, medulla, and nephrons) brought the textbook diagrams to life. It allowed me to appreciate the deep complexities of human physiology and reinforced how remarkable the human body is.

My advice to anyone considering this course…

If you’re considering studying Biomedical science, my biggest advice is to be resilient and curious! Science is dynamic, and the learning never ends. Be ready to adapt continuously to new advancements and embrace challenges. Gain experience in labs and engage in research projects, as well as keep up to date with scientific advancements.

How will Science change and adapt to the world in the future?

The future of science is exciting and full of opportunities. Advances in artificial intelligence will revolutionise diagnostics, making disease detection faster and more accurate. Personalised medicines will be catered to individuals and there will be more innovations such as lab-grown organs. All of which will contribute to refining healthcare. Science will continue to evolve and address global challenges, improving the quality of life for generations to come.

As we celebrate British Science Week, let’s appreciate the adaptability of science and its amazing impact on society!
