Today I want to share with you my personal experience of Freshers’ Week and with that, also point out what amazing work the Students’ Union does to ensure that we have a great university experience!
As you can probably guess by now, I am not the biggest party animal (Friday night to me means doing some baking and having a long bath – the perks of working weekends!). But I still wanted to experience Freshers’ Week and hoped to make some friends.
When I showed up to the first event, I realised that somehow most people actually already contacted their new housemates and were in groups already. To save myself from utter embarrassment, I planned to just have a quick drink and leave to go home to cry. But somehow, a lovely girl must have seen how horrible I felt and she came over and invited me to sit with her and her friends; all were lovely people! So I actually managed to really enjoy myself and was upset when I had to leave. With them, I made the plan to attend the Freshers’ Fair (basically the best event ever as you find out lots of cool stuff and you get free goodies!).
Freshers’ Fair was incredible and I loved speaking to all sorts of different people and finding out about the possibilities of doing sports, volunteering but also working for the university. Another event I attended was the quiz night (bet you all expected that one!). And I had a great time, so great that my group actually managed to win so we could share the money between us.
All together the Freshers’ Week gave me an insight into the fun part of uni and enabled me to meet some people who are not part of my course, but lovely nonetheless. If you have the chance to attend, I would definitely recommend it and there is such a variety of things that I am sure everyone can find something they will enjoy!
