For any third year, the future can be a scary concept. You have that feeling as you head into your final semester or trimester that now you need to plan out the rest of your life.
As I search for graduate schemes and internships, I think about where I want to be in five years’ time. A time that is not that far away that it feels impossible to fathom, but it’s also not too close that I need to apply too much pressure to myself.
I found the best place to start was to think about what I’m good at. By giving us positions like ‘team leader’ in task-based modules, my course helped me develop leadership skills and confidence in my ability to delegate and treat a team fairly.
I know that right now, I would like to be a digital marketing analyst where I have the chance to study human behavior and find ways of targeting ads without breaking personal privacy rights. After some thought I have made a list of what else, as well as the sector, is important to me to find in a career:
In five years, wherever I am I want to be happy and content with everything in my workspace and personal life.
For the bigger picture, of course, I have long-term dreams too:
