The Royal Society wishes to support international exchanges of scientists in order to 'support continued research' between former colleagues, PhD supervisors/students, or other collaborations.

Various forms of the exchange are possible, including cost-sharing variants exchanging with Argentina, France, or Russia.

Applicants may request:

  • up to of £3,000 for one-off travel lasting up to three months
  • up to £6,000 for multiple visits to be completed within one year (including a maximum of £1000 for research expenses)

Cost Share Programme

If you intend to collaborate with partners in Argentina, China, France, Ireland, Japan, Russia or Taiwan, your proposal can also be considered for the Cost Share Programme. This entails the UK applicant submitting a proposal to the Royal Society for up to £12,000 and the overseas applicant simultaneously submitting a proposal for an additional amount up to/equivalent to £12,000 to a partner organisation, with whom the Royal Society has a funding agreement. Further information can be found in the Cost Share Programme scheme notes.

Life sciences and physical sciences are eligible, but social and clinical research is not within the funder's remit. Both the applicant and the overseas co-applicant must hold PhDs (or equivalent experience), and must be employed by their eligible organisation for the length of the exchange.

The organisation of both researchers must demonstrate support for the exchange in order to be eligible.

Deadline for applications: 13 June 2017 (Kan Tong Po; Standard Programme), 15 June 2017 (Argentina, France, Russia cost share).
