Drama Productions 2024

Summer 2024's Festival of Performance saw ARU's graduating BA (Hons) Drama and joint Hons students stage seven different productions at venues across Cambridge, while our second year Drama students put on performances of Beowulf and Florence and Mary for their Community Theatre Performance module.

Lemon, Lemons, Lemons, Lemons, Lemons - 13 May 2024, Town and Gown Theatre
Lemons lemons lemons lemons lemons is a story about Bernadette who is a determined lawyer and Oliver who is a chilled musician. The play sees the strain that is brought upon the couple with the introduction of the hush law. The law brings in a one hundred and forty word limit on the couple and we see the different ways they attempt to communicate with each other. The show sees the couple from meeting in a graveyard, then navigating their way through young love until the word limit bill comes in to play.

Baleen - 14 May 2024, Town and Gown Theatre
A boy is swallowed by a huge whale and is taken in by a group of people lead by a matriarch residing inside. All bonded by a love for the sea. They tell myths and tales from different cultures to pass the time and cling onto sanity. The boy begins the ripple effect of opposing how things have always been done.

International Truths - 15 May 2024, Covent Garden Theatre
'International Truths' is a multicultural cabaret and it's all about the experience of being a student in a foreign country!  International students are full of amazing stories, magical anecdotes and even unsaid truths. We give them a voice through the finest art forms of music, dance, comedy, sketches and more!  From language barriers to stereotypes, from judgements to being homesick we're all in the same boat.

Brilliant and Beyond - 16 May 2024, Cambridge Junction
Brilliant and Beyond present ‘Hands off my Dreams,' an exciting co-collaboration with Year 3 students from St Matthews school. Ivy Price has a very important piece of homework to complete. What will she be when she grows up? She decides to sleep on it. Whilst counting her sheep to fall asleep, the hacker has other plans... With the help of some quirky characters along the way will Ivy be able to realise her dreams and get her homework in on time? Or will the naughty hackers evil plan succeed?

Tiny Dynamite - 16 May 2024, Cambridge Junction
“Tiny Dynamite" by Abi Morgan delves into the intertwined lives of its characters, where past traumas and unspoken desires simmer beneath the surface. The play explores the fragile balance between love and loss, and the enduring power of human connection. The story follows the annual reunion of two childhood friends, Lucien and Anthony, whose lives have taken divergent paths since their youth. As they grapple with the weight of their shared history and the unresolved tensions between them, they find themselves drawn to the charismatic and free-spirited Madeline. Her presence ignites a series of events, unravelling the fragile routine they've constructed in their adult lives.

Wonderland - 17 & 18 May 2024, Vinyl Cambridge
Step into the magical world of wonderland as Alice navigates her newfound life as an adult. Whilst gaining advice from all your favourite kooky characters, Alice is confused and is trying to cope with the chaos of being in her twenties. Come on the journey filled with fun, celebration, mystery and magic as we all help Alice figure out her troubles. Performed on the dancefloor at Vinyl nightclub.

Safe in Bed - 18 May 2024, Covent Garden Theatre
Nadia has so much to do, but can't bring herself to do anything, not with her mind beating down on her. But there is light outside, and people are reaching out to her. Will she listen?
