Silver Star Diabetes invited VERI's Dr Raju Sapkota to talk about diabetes and diabetic retinopathy in South Asians, and share some of the work that VERI has been doing in this area.

Dr Sapkota was a guest speaker at the charity's Chai Chat, a weekly online event where diabetes patients, their families, and practitioners can connect and learn more about the condition and its management, on Wednesday 23 November 2022.

He discussed the reasons South Asians with diabetes are particularly likely to lose their eyesight at an early age, and the outreach work the Anglia Ruskin University Diabetic Retinopathy Awareness and Prevention Programme (ARUDRAPP) project has been undertaking to address this.

More than 50 participants from across the UK and Bangladesh attended the event via Zoom. A representative from Silver Star Diabetes said: 'that was a very informative presentation. They [participants] all loved it. Very positive feedback coming in.'
