Coach Jean has been Head Coach for Anglia Ruskin’s high-performance volleyball programme since its inception in 2017 but his involvement coaching both the men’s and women’s teams stretches back more than a decade, to when they first entered BUCS.
The last three years have seen a step change in the teams’ development, gaining a promotion each and winning three Conference Cups between them. The women have a 25:17 record and completed the cup and league double in 2018-19 by winning won both the Conference Cup and Tier 2 titles. The men have a 29:7 record and went unbeaten in 2017-18 to win both the Conference Cup and Tier 3 titles.
Jean gained his first coaching experience with the Cambridge University men’s first team, the Blues. Over four seasons, from 2005 to 2009, the team had a 70:25 record and was regarded as one of the dominant forces of university volleyball. Highlights included two Midlands 1 league titles (remaining unbeaten in 2006/07); three appearances at the BUCS Final 8s; a BUCS silver medal in 2008 and taking the team to the European University Championships that year.
From 2010 to 2014 Jean coached the Cambridge University Blues Women. Over four seasons this team had a 71-26 record; won the Midlands 1 title twice; reached the BUCS Final 8s every season and took the bronze medal in 2012 thus qualifying for the European Championships.
Alongside coaching university teams Jean has also taken charge of Cambridge Volleyball Club’s National League teams on a number of occasions. In recent years he coached the men’s team to successive promotions (to Division 2 in 2017 and Division 1 in 2018) and then took over as Lead Coach for the women in 2018, overseeing their promotion to the Super League in 2019 and for the first time in the club’s history.
