StoryLab researches the effects of digital innovation and storytelling on social change, cultural participation and heritage sustainability. We explore how the development and democratisation of existing and emerging creative technologies enable community empowerment, heritage revitalisation, and participatory and sustainable regeneration.
As an institute, we focus on speculative, participatory, and agile design to create powerful experiences and highly relevant responses to the real-world environment. We experiment with formats such as XR (VR, AR, MR), 360 film, soundscapes, and 3D data visualisation.
We work with a variety of researchers, organisations and industry-academia networks to develop creative artefacts and generate new knowledge and innovation, especially on complex issues such as equality, migration, heritage-making and revitalisation, social justice and climate change.
At StoryLab we focus on four key research areas: Identity, Culture and Heritage, Sustainable and Resilient Communities, Creative Practice and Co-Creation; and Digital and Immersive Technologies.
