During his time at ARU, Jack has been a key figure leading the development of the American Football Club and this year his efforts have reached out beyond the club to the wider sporting community.

As the only returning committee member, this year Jack helped train all the committee members in their new positions and supported them throughout the season. To ensure better continuity next year, Jack drafted a season planner to supporting incoming committee members.

As well as encouraging newcomers to join the squad, Jack has also developed the coaching team by recruiting former players into coaching roles and has been involved in recruiting a new head coach for next year.

To welcome new players Jack coordinated a range of activities, which despite the lockdown, were an effective way to keep members involved. These included play book meetings led by coaches and players, social events featuring raffles, quizzes and a Super Bowl watch party.

Jack’s involvement doesn’t end there though, this year he’s been closely involved in supporting Team ARU staff share good practice between clubs, headed up the American Football Club’s Team ARU social media takeover, led on the organisation of the club’s awards night and was the club’s Covid Officer ensuring sessions could go ahead safely. Jack led on the ‘Rookie Days’ for new students at the start of term and has also used his background in TV production to produce photographic, graphic design and film-based content for team promotion over the course of his time on the committee.

After being shortlisted for this award on two previous occasions and being closely involved in the club’s successful Team of the Year Award last year, this award is recognition of the impact that Jack has had on ARU sport, not just this year but across his time at ARU.

A truly deserving winner of this year’s Doug Cosnett award.
