Science and engineering facilities

CAD engineering software

We're home to cutting-edge facilities including two purpose-built science centres, psychology labs, canine and equine therapy centres, and advanced engineering and manufacturing workshops.

Science centres

In Cambridge and Writtle, our science centres feature a range of specialist labs and teaching spaces.

You'll find a suite of psychology labs in Cambridge, including EEG, perception, social behaviour and neuroscience labs. Meanwhile, the centre in Writtle houses a dedicated veterinary nursing clinical skills area.

Agriculture and horticulture

Students at ARU Writtle study on a 150-hectare campus that is an 'open laboratory'. It features a campus farm, research glasshouses, extensive plant collection, and the Postharvest Unit, which undertakes research and trials with commercial companies.

Animal and veterinary science

In Writtle, our modern canine centre is open to the public, and offers both canine therapy and dog-grooming services. The campus is also home to a working farm and the Titchmarsh Centre for Animal Care.

Equine students are based in the specialist Equine Training and Development Centre. It includes stable blocks and yard, riding arenas and therapy barns. There are around 70 horses on campus at any given time.

Veterinary physiotherapy students use Writtle's canine and equine centres, and a veterinary nursing clinical skills area. Read more about our animal and veterinary science facilities.

Engineering

Our engineering and manufacturing students in Chelmsford have access to specialist engineering workshops, electronics and microelectronics labs, a concrete lab, industry-standard software, and 3D printing facilities.

Sports science

We offer sports science degrees in Cambridge and Writtle, and you’ll find specialist sports centres and facilities on both campuses.
