Indicative thesis title: Listening tests in virtual environments: advancing practice.
Tim's PhD project aims to investigate the ways in which immersive technology, including virtual reality headsets, can be used in listening tests. It is hoped that virtual environments can make listening tests more realistic, sensitive and engaging.
As a keen banjo and cello player, Tim is excited to be part of Cambridge Institute for Music Therapy Research, and hopes his research can eventually lead to therapeutic application.
Tim completed his undergraduate degree in Psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London, where he investigated creativity and cognition in dyslexia as well as a project on self-stimulating behaviours in Autism. He went on to University College London, where he completed an MSc in Advanced Neuroimaging and gained a foundation of neuroanatomy and neuroimaging methodology. His Master's thesis explored decision making in cluster B personality disorders.
Tim’s enduring interest is in attention and perception, and the ways that although we feel we simply observe or sense the world around us, our brain is constantly curating that experience.
