Sanghyun is an internationally published, award winning picturebook publisher and illustrator from South Korea. He is conducting research into wordless picturebooks, having completed an MA in Children’s Book Illustration at Anglia Ruskin University.


Sanghyun is particularly interested in how to make sequenced images into stories without text, for a wordless picturebook. Sanghyun has received awards in the Bologna Ragazzi Awards and the BIB and World Illustration Awards.

Research interests

Sanghyun's main research interests are: Wordless Picturebooks, Pictorial Storytelling and Education for the picturebook artist.

Sanghyun is currently undertaking a PhD in children's books. His main concern is how to understand the role of invisible text in a wordless picturebook and to help to view artwork as practice-based research in which both theory and practice inform one another. He also has a particular interest in crossover genre, between picturebooks and other visual arts, like the graphic novel.
