Dr Garcia-Porta's research expertise is in dry eye disease, as well as ocular surface response to different conditions like using glaucoma eye drops, wearing contact lenses or being exposed to environmental stress.

Background

Nery is an optometry doctor with a Masters degree in Clinical Optometry. She also holds a PhD in Vision Sciences from the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain).

During her PhD, Nery spent more than a year in the Clinical and Experimental Optometry Research Lab (CEORLab) at the University of Minho, Portugal, where her research was focused on contact lenses. She also spent three months at Aston University in the UK, where she carried out a research project in collaboration with the Optometry and Biomaterials groups. In addition, Dr Garcia-Porta collaborated on two privately funded clinical research projects.

In 2017, Nery joined the team at the Vision and Eye Research Institute as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie IF Fellow. She currently has more than 25 conferences contributions and more than ten articles of scientific research and outreach published.

Apart from her research background, Nery also has clinical experience acquired during the six weeks that she spent in the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, and the nine months that she worked in Spain's Quironsalud Hospital.
