Background

While working as clinician, Luca completed his Masters in Rehabilitation of Musculoskeletal Disorders at Genova University (2014). In 2015, he started working as a junior and later on, Senior Musculoskeletal Specialist. He has been a PhD researcher in Rehabilitation Science and Physiotherapy since 2017 working at the KARMA-4DCT-project at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He works now as Senior Lecturer at ARU.

Research interests

  • Dynamic CT images for MSK applications
  • Systematic Review
  • Motion analysis

Luca's research explores applications of dynamic computed tomography (4DCT) for musculoskeletal pathologies using imaging processing techniques and kinematic analysis. His specific focus is on knee kinematics estimated by 4DCT in both healthy subjects and patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome and pre/post-surgical ACL reconstruction. Luca is also collaborating with University of Oxford to try to determine optimal amount of bone to be remove during surgical intervention of patient with Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). He is passionate about Evidence-based Physiotherapy and Systematic Reviews.

Areas of research supervision

  • Dynamic 4DCT for Musculoskeletal applications
  • Cervical Spine Kinematics
  • Manual Therapy for Musculoskeletal disorders

Teaching

  • MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-reg)

Qualifications

  • PhD in Rehabilitation Science and Physiotherapy, VUB, Belgium
  • BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, Universitá Politecnica delle Marche, Italy
  • PG Dip Rehabilitation of Musculoskeletal Disorders, Genova University
