Lavanta is currently working on her PhD at our Vision and Eye Research Institute in Cambridge, investigating the effects of environmental conditions on the ocular surface of patients with diabetes.

Background

Having studied at Imperial College London, Lavanta gained her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Medical Sciences with Molecular and Cellular Biology for which she achieved First Class Honours and the Goldberg-Schachmann and Freda Becker Memorial Fund Award. She qualified as a doctor in 2005, following which she completed her postgraduate medical diploma and joined the Royal College of Physicians of London in 2009.

At present Dr Farouk is a Specialty Registrar in Endocrinology and Diabetes with General Internal Medicine.
