Ian is a senior lecturer whose main area of expertise and interest is critical intensive care. He is particularly interested in advancing medical technology and immersive simulated teaching and learning.
Ian has worked in many different areas including surgery, medicine, ear-nose-throat and maxillofacial nursing, trauma, orthopaedics, ambulatory care, education, disability assessment, functional analysis and mental health. He has worked previously as a Trauma Clinical Nurse Specialist, Clinical Standards Lead, Practice Development Nurse, Clinical Facilitator and Senior Charge Nurse. Ian began working in higher education as a lecturer practitioner and later as senior lecturer. He is the Module Lead for the undergraduate acute / critical care module along with being the Professionalism Champion, Academic Integrity Lead and Professional Nurse Advocate. He has also operated in interim roles as Course Lead and Education Champion. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Authority.
