David Scott is a highly experienced Cinematographer, having shot 15 cinema feature films and many TV films for all major UK broadcasters, as well as scores of commercials.

Background

David is a specialist in performance and Arts documentaries. His films have garnered many awards including: Grand Prix - Rimini, Prix Europa, Blue Angel - Berlin, Silver Hugo - Chicago and two Emmys.

David's current research is a continuing exploration of improvisation in cinematography, drawing on his experience in documentary over many years and more recently in shooting two feature films where all performance and dialogue is improvised by the actors in the moment of filming.

Research interests

  • Improvisation in Cinematography

David is currently working on his Ph.D. by Published Work. The title is 'Improvising Cinematography in the Context of Improvised Performance in Narrative Fiction Films'. The two main areas of research are, first in dealing with the actors' freedom and improvisation whilst using 'plan sequence' style of shooting. The second is in integrating cinematography as a guiding principle of the story telling.
