Darren is a Lecturer in Animal Science at ARU in Writtle, specialising in biology, ecology, conservation and animal husbandry. After graduating with a first-class honours degree in Animal Management in 2020, Darren initially continued working as a field ecologist for a consultancy company before taking the opportunity to teach at Writtle.

During his consultancy career undertaking field work, Darren worked under licence with protected species in the UK, including badgers, bats, reptiles, newts and dormice.
Darren has previous experience as a Managing Director of Crowsheath Fishery in Essex, and wildlife rescue and rehabilitation at South Essex Wildlife Hospital. He has also been a volunteer Warden for the Essex Wildlife Trust since 2018 and manages a 20-acre woodland, wildflower meadows, and rare, native sheep breeds conservation grazing in the meadows.
Darren’s area of research interest is UK-focussed ecology and conservation.
