Background

Aine completed Registered Nurse Training in Ireland in 1981 and moved to the UK to undertake Midwifery training in 1982. She found a career in Midwifery enjoyable and rewarding and during that time developed an interest in Education. The Advanced Diploma in Midwifery at the Royal College of Midwives, London, provided an opportunity to evaluate practice and develop new skills and attitudes. The Postgraduate Certificate in the Education of Adults at the University of Surrey was an opportunity to meet individuals from a wide range of clinical and educational backgrounds and provided an environment to try out new ideas and practices. The changes in Nurse and Midwifery education in the late 1980’s required an all graduate workforce and taking the Open University BA made it possible for her to work while she studied. Though it was challenging, Aine found the experience very rewarding and that the opportunities contributed to the person she is today. Aine is married with two sons and and enjoys her job immensely.
