Entry requirements

For students coming from China to ARU

For entry to a bachelor’s degree (year 1), we will consider the following qualifications:

  • a recognised foundation programme
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma
  • International Advanced Levels (A Levels)
  • Chinese Senior Secondary School Graduation Certificate with 80% result performance
  • Chinese National College Entrance Examination (NCEE) (Gaokao) with 70% result performance
  • Graduation Certificate from a Specialised College (Zhongzhuan) or a Vocational Secondary School (Zhongzhi / Zhigao) with 70% result performance
  • successful completion of the first year of a recognised undergraduate programme with 70% result performance.

For entry to a Masters degree, we will consider the following qualifications:

  • a recognised pre-Masters course
  • 4-year Bachelor degree awarded by a recognised Chinese university (Prestigious/Regular/Private) with 70% result performance or above
  • successful completion of 3-year University-Level Diploma (Dazhuan / Gaozhi) in a relevant subject with a final average of 80% or above in a relevant subject PLUS a minimum of 3 years of appropriate post-graduate employment experience.

For entry to a research degree, we will consider overseas qualifications equivalent to a UK Masters degree.

If English is not your first language you will need to be able to show you have the required level of English language. This is so we can ensure you'll be able to follow your course.

Our standard entry criteria for undergraduate courses is IELTS 6.0 or equivalent, with nothing lower than 5.5 in any of the four elements (listening, speaking, reading and writing).

Our standard entry criteria for postgraduate taught and postgraduate research courses is IELTS 6.5, with nothing lower than 5.5 in any of the four elements (listening, speaking, reading and writing).

If you don't meet our English language requirements, our Language Centre offers a range of courses which could help you achieve the level required for entry onto a degree course.

Our Language Centre also offers the English Language Proficiency Test (ELPT) in the UK and overseas. Check our events page for dates or contact our country managers for more information.

Entry requirements

For students coming from Hong Kong to ARU

For entry to a Bachelors degree (year 1), we will consider the following qualifications:

  • A recognised foundation programme
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma
  • International Advanced Levels (A Levels)
  • Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE): minimum of Grade 433 in three subjects of the four core and two elective subjects taken. For some science courses if a specific subject area is required, minimum grade 3 in that subject is required.

For our BOptom (Hons) Optometry Year 1 entry, we accept:

  • HKDSE results of minimum of two Grade 5 in the science subjects (maths, physics, chemistry or biology) and another Grade 4 in at least one other subject.

We accept Associate Degree from a Hong Kong higher education institution into our relevant 2nd or 3rd year undergraduate or top up programmes.

For entry to a Masters degree, we will consider the following qualifications:

  • A recognised pre-Masters course
  • University Bachelor's degree with minimum of 2:2 or equivalent.

For entry to a bachelor’s degree (year 1), we will consider the following qualifications:

  • A recognised foundation programme
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma

  • Successful competition of at least one year of undergraduate studies at a recognised university in Japan with a GPA of 2.8/4.0 or equivalent
  • Associate Degree/Diploma

For entry to a master’s degree, we will consider the following qualifications:

  • A recognised pre-masters course
  • Bachelor degree awarded by a recognized institution in Japan with a  GPA of 2.8/4.0 or equivalent

For students coming from Taiwan to ARU

For entry to a bachelor’s degree (year 1), we will consider the following qualifications:

  • A recognised foundation programme
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma
  • International Advanced Levels (A Levels)
  • Junior College Diploma
  • Senior Vocational High School Leaving Certificate
  • Successful competition of at least one year of undergraduate studies at a recognised university in Taiwan with minimum 65%

If you are applying for a one of our Art & Design, Music, Drama or Performing Arts courses, we can also accept Senior High School certificate with a minimum of 70%.

For entry to a Master’s degree, we will consider the following qualifications:

  • A recognised pre-Masters course
  • Bachelor degree awarded by a National University in Taiwan with a minimum of 65%
  • Bachelor degree awarded by any other recognized institution in Taiwan with a minimum of 70%
