International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test measures the language ability of candidates and indicates whether they're ready to study in English.

Anglia Ruskin University is an IELTS testing venue for IHL Cambridge in Cambridge, Chelmsford and Peterborough.

If you would like to take a test, please book with IHL Cambridge. More information on IELTS with IHL Cambridge can be found on

Please note: The Head Office for IHL Cambridge is based in London, but all testing takes place in Cambridge, Chelmsford or Peterborough.

If you have previously taken a test:

  • IELTS results are released 13 calendar days after the test; you can check results on the online registration system
  • a certificate, known as Test Report Form (TRF) will also be posted out to you on the release date
  • if you think your IELTS results are wrong you can request that they be remarked. Please contact the test centre where you took your test. If you took your test at Anglia Ruskin University, please email IHL Cambridge for information:

IELTS for UK Visas and Immigration

In 2015, the English language tests accepted for UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) purposes changed.

There are now three different types of IELTS test you can apply for:

  • IELTS for UKVI
  • IELTS Life Skills.

If you need to take an IELTS as part of your UKVI application it is likely that you will need to take either IELTS for UKVI or IELTS Life Skills (there may be exceptions to this rule if you are applying for a Tier 4 student visa). It is your responsibility to find out which test the UKVI require you to take.

If you would like to take an IELTS test, book with British Council.
