Our vision is to educate and train doctors who will be ready to deliver and practise modern medicine into the 21st century.
Using state-of-the-art facilities, we'll train doctors for the future using innovative technologies to tackle existing and emerging threats to health. Building on our history as the largest provider of nursing, midwifery and allied health courses in the East of England, we will provide our students with a dynamic and modern curriculum that equips them with the skills-set needed to manage future patient and population needs.
Social accountability is at the heart of our School of Medicine, which has the vision to address the urgent need for more doctors and healthcare professionals in the UK, especially in Essex.
We are committed to encouraging and supporting students who have aspirations to study medicine and our University has a strong commitment to widening participation. We aim to recruit a significant number of students from the local area and support our students to further their careers in Essex once they have completed their studies.
The School of Medicine collaborates with five NHS hospitals, a large mental health trust and in excess of 60 GP surgeries, to provide students with a mix of experiences in urban and rural environments. Taught by a dedicated faculty and visiting clinicians from the NHS Trusts and general practice, our students will receive the very best education in their journey to becoming doctors.
The training we provide to our students is underpinned by a strong commitment to clinically focused research. The Vision and Eye Research Institute (VERI) is an example of a world-leading research team in the School of Medicine whose work is addressing the most pressing healthcare issues in the field.
