The Old Factory gym

The Old Factory is a brand-new gym for Chelmsford. It features a range of fantastic facilities and classes, including:

  • large, refurbished gym with all-new equipment
  • fitness studio
  • dedicated spin studio
  • three Olympic lifting platforms
  • two ten-metre sled tracks
  • a multi-functional fitness rig
  • free parking.

You’ll find The Old Factory in Globe House on Hoffmanns Way – just five minutes' walk from Chelmsford station.

Hoffmann’s, as it’s known locally, is a beautiful historic building. Originally home to one of the world’s first ball bearing factories and an important part of Chelmsford’s heritage, it’s a great spot to work out, get fit and feel good. Enjoy its high ceilings, natural light and cool industrial style.

The Old Factory gym caters for everyone and is fully accessible, with lift access to the first-floor exercise studios. There's free parking on site.

Heart and Sole walks

At our Chelmsford campus you can take part in free lunchtime walks, led by walk leaders.

The walks take place on Tuesdays throughout the year, from 12.15-12.45pm. We meet outside the Lord Ashcroft Building and our route takes us through the beautiful Chelmer Valley Nature Reserve. After the walk you’re welcome to visit our café and enjoy a free tea or coffee.

The walks are part of Chelmsford's Health Walk scheme, Heart and Sole.

Please note that due to the Government’s advice and guidance relating to coronavirus, our sports programme is currently suspended. This includes all ARU sports facilities which are closed until further notice.

We're using this time to make our sports programme even better in the future and look forward to engaging with you again as soon as possible.
