Nurturing vision and education: ARU's University Eye Clinic

We are proud to be one of the few universities in the UK with our own community eye clinic. Located in the heart of Cambridge, ARU’s Eye Clinic welcomes hundreds of patients weekly and has provided over 220,000 free eye tests since opening in 2000.

Service and education

At the Eye Clinic, we blend service with education. Optometry and Ophthalmic Dispensing students sharpen their skills while meeting local needs under the guidance of experienced professionals.

Advanced facilities

Our newly established Sensory Science Centre enhances student learning with a £1.9 million investment in state-of-the-art equipment. Dr Helen Keyes, Head of Psychology, Sport and Sensory Sciences, says: "new equipment ensures ARU remains at the cutting edge. This is a wonderful investment for our students and the public they will serve."

Outreach

We collaborate with local schools to promote good eye health and partner with businesses to offer eye care services to their staff. The Eye Clinic is an important hub in our community.

Through the ARU Eye Clinic, we are delighted to serve, educate, and enhance the everyday experiences of our community, ensuring better eye health and improved interaction with the world.

"The University Eye Clinic is central to providing optometry students with real life experiences of seeing patients and preparing them for the work they will undertake once they’ve graduated from ARU.

"Students also benefit from the experience and guidance of qualified practitioners from various clinical backgrounds and with a range of expertise."
