The European Parliament has approved all parts of the Horizon 2020 legislative package by a large majority, and the final budget for the programme will be EUR 70.2 billion.

The Parliament ensured that Horizon 2020 will feature a target of 11% of the overall budget to go to SMEs, while there are also agreed budgetary allocations for Widening Participation (EUR 750 million) and Science with and for Society (EUR 450 million).

The new programme still needs to be rubber-stamped by Member States within the Council of the EU, which is expected to happen in the next 2-3 weeks.
