Lauren's Keeping Up With The Times

Digital Media student's alternative showcase featured in Times article

Lauren Rouse, a graduating student from our BA (Hons) Digital Media course, was recently featured in an article by The Times. The article focused on the various ways students have been showcasing their work during the Coronavirus pandemic, following the cancellation of their usual degree show exhibitions.

Speaking to The Times' Jade Cuttle, Lauren explained how she had started sharing her work using Tiktok, a 'fast-growing video-sharing platform with more than 800 million active users'. Lauren's work focuses on creature and character design, usually 'fantasy-themed concepts using Photoshop CC and the Wacom Cintiq 16 [a digital drawing tablet], as well as sculpture and maquette-making'. She has amassed more than 17,000 followers on Tiktok, with many of her videos going viral.

'I have gained a lot of freelance work from clients in my followers list, which has helped me financially during the pandemic,' Lauren says in the article. 'Someone got in touch via Tiktok asking me to help them to conceptualise and illustrate characters for their Dungeons & Dragons campaign plus a couple of environment designs. It was a fantastic project to work on for them and I hope to do more work like that in the future.'

You can see more of Lauren's designs on her website, and her major project work on our PRESENT Showcase site.
