With a hands-on DNA extraction experiment you'll gain practical knowledge of fundamental laboratory techniques used in molecular biology and genetics, essential for the aspiring biomedical scientist. Working alongside fellow applicants, this session will introduce the core skills needed for your biomedical studies, and you'll gain a first-hand look at the type of research and techniques you’ll be using in advanced studies. There will be current students and lecturers on-hand to support you as you take the first steps on your journey as a biomedical sciences undergraduate.

Embark on a journey into the world of business where you'll collaborate with future classmates, lecturers, and current students. Together, you'll explore the foundational theories behind leadership and management, while uncovering how these concepts connect with various business disciplines. As a team, you'll delve deeper into the roles of leaders and managers, comparing their traits and understanding the impact when these traits turn negative. This is a unique opportunity to experience the core principles of your future studies in action.

Step into the dynamic world of computing with this exciting introduction to computing and data science. In this hands-on session, you'll learn the fundamentals of designing and coding while working alongside future classmates, current students, and lecturers. Together, you'll develop a fully functional system, taking it from design to implementation using the latest technology in computer design. Your journey into the fast-evolving field of computing starts here.

In this hands-on session, you’ll have the chance to apply your creativity and construction knowledge in a practical setting. Through engaging discussions with your future classmates and current students, you’ll analyse a given design before constructing, reviewing and improving your work. Our expert lecturers will be on hand to provide advice and guidance, encouraging you to think outside the box and explore innovative construction models and techniques.

Join the Games team at ARU Peterborough for an exciting introduction to digital asset creation. In this hands-on session, you'll have the opportunity to work independently to create your own custom asset using graphics tablets and 3D mice. With the guidance of our lecturers, you'll then adapt the code of an existing game to incorporate your unique assets. This is your opportunity to meet your future classmates and gain valuable insights into what it's like to be part of ARU Peterborough’s dynamic Games community, through the experiences shared by our current students.

Step into the dynamic world of Integrated Health and Social Care in this engaging, interactive session. Collaborating with lecturers, current students, and fellow applicants, you’ll explore the role and function of the Integrated Care Board (ICB) while getting to know the people you’ll be studying with. Through a group activity, you’ll examine the impact of the ICB on health and social care services, as well as reflecting on your future role as a health and social care professional. Engaging in thoughtful discussion and hands-on collaboration, you’ll explore strategies for improving population health.

Join us for an exciting exploration of the world of law during this interactive session. You’ll collaborate with fellow applicants and current students to tackle real-world legal scenarios. Using your analytical skills, you'll identify legal solutions with a variety of specialised tools, before coming together to discuss your group's findings. This is your opportunity to connect with your lecturers while immersing yourself in the intricacies of law, legal systems, and the practical application of legal theory.

In the world of engineering, hands-on experience is key to developing a deep understanding of complex scientific concepts. By using simulation software to build circuits, you'll learn the theoretical principles of engineering and simultaneously gain valuable practical skills. The activity will improve your critical thinking skills, problem-solving ability and creativity as you will need to experiment with different components and configurations in a virtual environment to achieve the desired outcome in the physical world.

Engaging in such projects helps bridge the gap between engineering theory and real-world applications, empowering you as a future engineer to innovate, design and diagnose problems with confidence. It's just one way you can prepare for the engineering challenges of modern society, and contribute to the technological advancements of tomorrow.

Immerse yourself in the role of a midwife in our clinical birthing suite, experiencing what it will be like to study in a simulated real-world environment. Led by our expert lecturers, you’ll begin with a taught session exploring the fetal skull and pelvis through a practical demonstration. Afterward, you’ll collaborate with your future classmates and current students to put your learning into practice. In pairs, you’ll have the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the mechanisms of labour using a manikin baby and a pelvis. This is the first step in your journey as a student midwife.

Step into our state-of-the-art clinical suites and immerse yourself in a real-world simulated environment designed to replicate actual nursing practice. During this hands-on experience, you'll engage in life-saving techniques, specifically resuscitation, in both adult and child scenarios using advanced, life-like manikins.

As you work alongside fellow applicants, current nursing students, and experienced nursing lecturers, you'll learn to identify the critical differences in your approach to resuscitation depending on the patient's age and condition. This exercise is essential for building a comprehensive understanding of how to manage medical emergencies and adapt your care based on the unique needs of each patient.

Following the practical session, you'll take part in a collaborative group discussion, providing you with the opportunity to deepen your knowledge and further explore key concepts in nursing care.

Immerse yourself in the classroom environment in our purpose-built learning space designed to emulate the primary school setting. Working in groups, you’ll have the opportunity to dive deeply into key concepts that are essential for early years development and effective teaching. Exploring the factors that impact a child's growth and the personal attributes of a great teacher.

By collaborating with your future classmates and current students you’ll build a shared understanding of what makes an educator effective, which will be invaluable in preparing you to work with young children in the future. What a great way to start your journey as an aspiring early years educator!

Take part in sessions designed to introduce you to the role of child and family social work, and adult social work.

In the first taster session you'll focus on learning how to connect with children in a way that helps identify their emotional and psychological needs without being intrusive. You will explore methods such as creative play, observation, and the use of child-friendly communication tools.

In the second taster session you'll use the Gert suit to experience aging and/or disability. The Gert suit is a tool designed to simulate the physical limitations and challenges faced by elderly individuals or those with disabilities. By wearing the suit, you can gain firsthand experience of the difficulties faced such as limited mobility, joint stiffness, and sensory impairments. In this session, you will start to understand the physical challenges that can impact a person’s daily life and personal care needs, which will help you to offer personalised, empathetic care.

The sessions will conclude with a reflective discussion about empathy and personalisation across all areas of social work practice, bringing you together with current students, your future classmates and the lecturers.
