Introduction

Train as an Approved Mental Health Professional. Get hands-on experience and gain significant recognition in your field.

All applicants are required to be sponsored by their local authority and have a minimum of 2-years' post qualification experience as a Social Worker, Nurse (MH/LD), Occupational Therapist or Chartered Psychologist.

Our PG Cert Mental Health Practice (Approved Mental Health Professional AMHP) is a great way to develop your career. It’s available as a full-time and part-time course that combines practice and theory to offer you the most effective learning experience.

With your employer’s support, on the full-time course, you’ll combine university study and placement experiences from early September to late December. On the part-time option, you'll spend two days per week at university or on placement, and work in your own team for the remainder of the week, from early September to late April.

To apply for this course, you’ll first have to contact the Course Leader through the enquiry button, and confirm you are sponsored by your Local Authority or Mental Health Trust. Once this is received, you’ll be sent an application link.

With this postgraduate qualification you will have met the approval criteria (2020) of Social Work England and be eligible to apply for AMHP registration with your local authority or local mental health trust; in accordance with the Mental Health (Approved Mental Health Professionals) (Approval) (England) Regulations 2008.
