Research that matters

Our research is making a positive, tangible impact on the world.

Three research themes

At ARU, our research activity is aligned with three overarching themes:

Research institutes and groups

We're home to a number of research institutes which focus on areas including sustainability, policing and crime, clinical and medical innovation, music therapy, and vision and eye research.

Alongside these institutes is a range of research groups, dedicated to subjects as diverse as ecology, finance and economics, cyber security, and political history.

REF 2021

Our Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 results highlighted the impact our research has on people’s lives - as we focus on tackling real-world issues, and improving the societies we live in. Visit our REF pages to read a series of inspiring case studies.
