Apprenticeship opportunities

Our two apprenticeships give you the opportunity to study part-time with Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) while employed at one of North West Anglia’s three hospitals as a Healthcare Support Worker – ultimately progressing to either Nursing Associate or Registered Nurse status.

Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship (Level 6, 42-month course)

Working in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University, North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust (NWAFT) was the first of two NHS employers in England to launch the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship in September 2017.

While you're learning and developing new skills as a NWAFT apprentice, you will still continue to receive pay and benefits from the Trust.

The Degree Apprenticeship is a perfect route for people like me who need an income while they are studying

Nursing Associate Higher Apprenticeship (Level 5, 24-month course)

The Trust was an early advocate of the new Nursing Associate role, as an integral member of the Cambridge and Peterborough Partnership group and a first-wave pilot site. Our first Nursing Associate Higher Apprentices started in January 2018. The first legacy Trainee Nursing Associates (TNAs) complete their studies in December 2018 and will be among the first to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) in early 2019.

I feel both privileged and humbled by the positive feedback I’ve received from patients I have helped. [My] placements have really helped broaden my knowledge, and increase my understanding of multidisciplinary team work

What’s an Apprenticeship?

As a professional apprentice you'll achieve a university qualification from our partners at Anglia Ruskin University. Add to this real work experience in our hospitals, as well as other areas of healthcare required to complete your training and meet NMC requirements.

You’ll receive a salary and benefits as a contracted employee of the Trust, and all tuition fees are paid on your behalf.

Apprenticeships are open to all. You might be a school leaver looking for an alternative to full-time university education, or perhaps you're already working and seeking higher-level training, or a career change. Either way, apprenticeships are an opportunity to learn as you earn.

Apprentices with North West Anglia Foundation Trust

In recognition of our region’s need for more compassionate, caring and committed nursing staff, we're recruiting new talent.

As an apprentice, you'll join one of our three sites in Peterborough, Huntingdon (Hinchingbrooke) and Stamford, studying either a Level 5 or Level 6 course.

You’ll need meet the entry requirements for your course, pass our joint interview and assessment process, and complete a probation period before you can start studying.
