Get the skills you need to work as a professional dog groomer, along with insights into the industry and business practices, with our Level 3 Diploma at Writtle College.

Our Diploma course includes classroom-based lessons and practical sessions. Practical sessions take place in our campus dog-grooming parlour, which is open to the public.

  • Handling and control to ensure safety at all times
  • Tools and equipment - including the correct use
  • General care and condition
  • Skin conditions
  • Parasites
  • Ears and eyes
  • Skin and nails
  • First aid for dogs
  • Infectious diseases
  • Kennel club breeds
  • Planning, design
  • Legislation

During the practical sessions we look at:

  • Clipping
  • Scissor styling
  • Hand stripping.

Practical sessions cover a variety of breeds.

Hands-on learning

As a student at Writtle College you’ll take part in practical session in our dog grooming parlour, which is open to the public. It’s part of our dedicated Lordship Canine Centre and includes kennel space, grooming tables, a bathing area and preparatory spaces.
