Your ARU journey begins with Welcome Week
Welcome Week gives you a taste of student life at ARU. It’s your chance to meet new people, explore your campus and get settled into your new environment. During Welcome Week, you’ll:
- Attend a course induction and meet your tutors and classmates
- Meet your Welcome Buddy who’s there to guide you through the first few months and beyond
- Go along to a ‘Student Life’ session to find out everything you need to know about studying here, and get your questions answered by current students
- Learn about our Students’ Union and find out about the societies and events you can get involved in, plus the advice and support available to you
- Visit our Welcome Fairs and get involved with so many events and activities

Your student ID card is your way of identifying yourself as an ARU student. When you’re on campus, you’ll need your student ID card to register your course attendance and access certain areas of campus, such as the library and university accommodation.
How do I collect my student ID card?
During Welcome Week, you’ll need to collect your student ID card from the Registration Hubs that are located on campus.
Before collecting your student ID card, please complete the Right to Study check on e:Vision. We'll then have a copy of your ID that we can use to verify that it’s you collecting the student ID card.The Registration Hubs can be found and are open as outlined below.

Got a maintenance loan agreed with the Student Loans Company? We’ll confirm your loan once you’ve completed the Right to Study checks and collected your student ID card. Once that's done, the money should land in your account within five working days, but not before the date SLC has scheduled your first payment for.

If you still need to apply for funding, make sure you do this as soon as possible.
Once you’ve finished your registration task, you’ll get access to a helpful online module called ‘Into ARU’. An important introductory module, Into ARU is an interactive environment designed to help you discover what university life is like, understand the support that’s on offer and get top tips on study practices and time management from our current students.
We’ve designed the module to help you settle in, get the most out of your studies and welcome you into ARU.
If you’re an international student, you need to come to campus to complete registration before you can start this module. Don’t worry, you still have plenty of time to complete it.
Your course induction takes place during Welcome Week, from Monday 15 September. It’s important that you come along so you can:
- Get important information about your timetable
- Learn more about your course materials and assessments
- Pick up your student ID card
- Meet your course mates and tutors
- Meet our student support teams who’ll be there for you throughout your studies
Find your Course Induction and Welcome Week timetable
- Check your Joining Email sent by [email protected] for your course title.
- Visit the Timetabling web pages and view the Course Induction (Welcome Week) Timetables.
- Select your course from the drop-down menu and select the week your course starts (most sessions will take place the week commencing 15 September).
- Click 'View Timetable'
Depending on your course, you might see an online event on your course induction timetable. If you have an online session, it will take place on Teams, via Canvas (our learning management system). Visit canvas.anglia.ac.uk. You'll find the tile for your Course Induction Canvas site on your Dashboard.
If you’ve got any questions, you can find the answer on our self-service portal, Ask ARU. Our friendly AI chatbot will help you. If the chatbot can’t help, you’ll be connected to a member of the iCentre team between 09:00 - 17:00, Monday to Friday.
You’re expected to come along to all the events in your course induction programme, but if you can’t make it, don’t panic. There will be an opportunity for you to catch up on what you’ve missed.
