From 1.30 - 2.30pm, Dr Mariana Lopez will be giving a talk entitled ‘Audio Films for Visually Impaired Audiences’ where she will introduce the concept of Audio Film, a format of sonic art that uses sound, sound processing and surround sound to tell a story without the need for any visuals or a narrator. Mariana will explore current Audio Description practices and will examine in what ways Audio Films can provide visually impaired audiences with a different filmic experience.

To complement her talk CoDE will be offering the chance to experience an Audio Film based on a Roald Dahl classic and played back in immersive surround sound. Screenings will take palce every half-hour from 11.00am to 1.00pm and 4.30 to 6.30pm.

From 11.00am, Dr Arne Nykänen will be leading a hands-on demonstration of ‘Safe and Sound Drive’, a sound-based game for cars to help drivers increase eco-driving skills, lower fuel consumption and encourage safe and environmentally friendly approaches to driving.  During the development of this game driving simulators are used to experience the games without needing to take a ride in a real car, while also allowing the collection of data on people’s attitudes and behaviour.
