Dr John Hogan is Senior Lecturer in Employment Relations at the Faculty of Business and Law and holds a Wertheim Fellowship at Harvard Law School in the USA. John conducts research into the implications of new and more established media for the politics and processes of organisation.
Dr Hogan has published widely on labour organising through the internet, jointly editing special issues on this topic for the Industrial Relations Journal, Critical Perspectives on International Business, as well, Labour History. John has led research looking at print media and the politics and processes of the transitional society of Iraqi Kurdistan, a project that has already drawn media attention and led to commentary in Le Monde Diplomatique.
Dr Hogan is interested in how the Internet and associated digital communication technologies permit for a revolution in the production, transmission and receipt of image, sound and text. The widespread availability of new communication technologies, available at low and distributed cost and accessible from the home, work or while on the move presents truly global spaces for interaction. Dr Hogan is interested in how the new and ever changing communications landscape can be views as expressive of popular challenge to oligarchy, while registering the continuities and rationale for the reproduction of elite domination both within and beyond virtual space.
