Gerald is an experienced Course Leader responsible for the leadership and management of our BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science (Physiological Sciences) degree. He's also a Senior Lecturer specialising in Cardiovascular Science.

Background

At ARU, Gerald teaches Cardiovascular Science modules. As an experienced practice educator, he also leads on the Workplace Learning sections of our Healthcare Science (Physiological Sciences) course.

As well as Healthcare Science, Gerald contributes to our postgraduate Physician Associate course.

He has worked in the area of Healthcare Science for over 25 years across Further and Higher Education and the National Health Service. He has significant experience as a practice educator and is a trained Mentor. He has held posts such as Head of Division [HE] - Health and Science, Project Manager (Healthcare Scientists) with the NHS South Yorkshire Workforce Confederation, Education and Training Directorate. Key involvement included liaising closely with key partners (e.g. Higher Education Institutions, Acute Trusts, and Professional Groups) and the responsibility for a major project ‘Making the Change Healthcare Scientists in South Yorkshire’. He has held the post of Assistant Network Coordinator, North Trent Network of Cardiac Care as part of the Cardiology Clinical Network undertaking management responsibilities. This involved liaising with Public Health Directors, Clinical Leads, and CHD Collaborative as part of the Cardiac Strategy Local delivery plan.

Gerald is a Professional Assessor with the Academy of Healthcare Science and a Member of the Registration Council of Clinical Physiologists. He holds the post of Secretary of the Association of Clinical Physiology Educators (ACPE) working in conjunction with other HEI's, NSHCS. RCCP and PTP (SIG) in the best interest of our future HCS workforce.

Gerald was recently appointed to the Mentor Register of Advanced Teacher Status with The Education and Training Foundation (October 2017), and by January 2018, was accepted onto the Society for Education Training List as a registered Mentor. He is a member of the Institute of Leadership and Management following successful completion of the 'Make a Difference Leadership Programme'.

Mentor Role: Mentoring an STEM tutor towards the Advance Teacher Status (Education & Training Foundation) and a SET member in support of their professional development.
