Lord Bernard Ribeiro CBE FRCS is Chancellor of ARU.
Lord Ribeiro qualified as a doctor at Middlesex Hospital School in 1967 and became Consultant General Surgeon at Basildon Hospital in Essex in 1979, where he pioneered the use of keyhole surgery. He served as President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England from 2005-2008 and retired from his post as Consultant General Surgeon at Basildon University Hospital in 2008.
He was awarded the CBE for his 'immeasurable' services to medicine in 2004 and was awarded the Honorary degree of Doctor of Science from ARU in 2008. He was appointed The Lord Ribeiro of Achimota in the Republic of Ghana and of Ovington in the County of Hampshire in 2010 and Chairman of the Independent Reconfiguration Panel in 2012.
Lord Ribeiro was appointed Chancellor of ARU in January 2021.
